I recently played this for some friends (outdoors, socially distanced, etc.) and everyone loved it. How can you not? It’s literally “Non-Stop Classic Jams Mixed Together.”
After listening to I Need a Freak, a funktastic 1983 album by Sexual Harrassment to be reissued by Dark Entries next month, I needed more. So I dug around, searched around for the artist, and happened upon this amazing mix from 1993.
It’s by Cameron Paul, who got his first DJ gig in October 1977 at Broadway Power and Light in San Francisco. He got his first radio show on KSOL in 1983, and then moved to KMEL in 1987, becoming well-known in the Bay and beyond as a pioneer of the art of mixing. With a couple decades of experience by the time he worked on Old School Mix 8, it’s clear that he had it down to a science. Paul passed away in 2018, but with a mix as good as this, he’s very much alive.
